Meta Launches AI Model Llama 2 to Compete With Google’s ChatGPT and Bard

Meta has unveiled Llama 2, the latest iteration of their open-source large language model, which offers a distinct approach and competes with ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. The company has stated that Llama 2 can be utilized for research and commercial purposes without any cost.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Tuesday that the company is partnering with Microsoft to introduce a new generation of AI big language models and make the technology known as Llama 2.

Meta provides access to Llama 2 with the support of a number of companies and people from tech, academia and politics who also believe in an open innovation approach to today’s AI technologies. “We’re committed to building responsibly, and we’re providing resources to help those using Llama 2 do the same,” the Facebook parent company wrote in a blog post.

“We believe an open approach is right for today’s AI model development, especially in the generative space where technology is evolving rapidly. By making AI models openly available, they can benefit everyone,” Meta said.

Giving companies, startups, entrepreneurs and researchers the opportunity to use tools developed at a scale that would be challenging to build themselves, backed by computing power they might not otherwise be able to use, opens up the opportunity for them to experiment and innovate in exciting ways. and ultimately benefit economically and socially.

Additionally, opening up access to today’s AI models means that a generation of developers and researchers can stress test them, identify and solve problems quickly as a community.

Llama 2 Availability

The company said Llama 2 is available in the Azure AI template catalog, allowing developers using Microsoft Azure to build with it and leverage its cloud-based tools for content filtering and security features.

It’s also optimized to run natively on Windows, giving developers a seamless workflow as they bring creative AI experiences to customers across platforms. Llama 2 is available through Amazon Web Services (AWS), Hugging Face and other service providers as well.

Microsoft is also a major financier and partner of OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT. ChatGPT or similar offerings from Microsoft or Google are not open source.
