Meta stops recruiting for remote work positions after mass layoffs: All the details
Meta (formerly Facebook) is no longer listing new remote jobs because managers have reportedly been banned from posting new ads with the remote work option.
According to SFGate, a Meta spokesperson said that “the removal of remote jobs from the list is temporary.”
“We are still committed to remote work. We have only temporarily suspended new remote work apps while executives complete the restructuring that Mark (Zuckerberg) announced last month,” the spokesperson said in the report.
The company’s remote-friendly key description — “Remote roles are now available in the US, Canada and Europe, and we will continue to add roles to more locations as they become available” — has also been removed from its website.
In a March announcement to employees, Zuckerberg had said that engineers who joined in-person or worked entirely in-person “performed better, on average, than those who joined remotely.”
However, he added that the social media platform is “committed to decentralized work.”
After laying off 21,000 workers in two rounds of layoffs, Meta is still looking to cut costs and has reportedly reduced bonus payments for some employees during its “year of efficiency.”
The Wall Street Journal reports that employees who score “met most expectations” on performance reviews will receive a smaller percentage of their bonuses and restricted stock awards that expire in March 2024.
Thousands of employees have received that grade in the recent review round.
“We are making changes to our execution process, taking into account learning and feedback from last year and optimizing for the future. These changes are not related to workforce restructuring,” a company spokesperson said.
Zuckerberg said that after the restructuring, Meta plans to lift hiring and transfer freezes at each group.
