Microsoft is developing new AI technology to improve blurry videos: all the details
Microsoft has introduced an experimental AI-powered video enhancement experience called “Video Super Resolution” (VSR) for its Edge web browser that uses machine learning to increase the resolution of low-quality video.
“This can be achieved by removing block compression artifacts and upscaling the video resolution so you can enjoy sharp and clear videos on YouTube and other streaming platforms that play video content without sacrificing bandwidth, regardless of the original video resolution,” according to an Edge Insiders blog post. .
Due to the computing power required to clean and scale videos, video super resolution (VSR) is currently only offered when the device has one of the following GPUs — Nvidia RTX 20/30/40 series or AMD RX5700-RX7800 series.
In addition, the video must be played with a resolution of less than 720p, the device must be connected to the mains, and the height and width of the video must be more than 192 pixels.
The feature is currently available in the Canary channel for 50 percent of users and will be rolled out when the above conditions are met, the company said.
When the feature is enabled, users will see an HD icon in the address bar.
The tech giant said they are working on automatic hybrid GPU support for laptops with multiple GPUs.
In the meantime, users can try VSR by changing Windows settings to force Edge to run on its discrete GPU.
