Microsoft is providing the GPT-4 Turbo AI Model at no charge to all users.
Remember Microsoft Bing Chat, the company’s own GPT-based AI chatbot? Some time ago, it was renamed Microsoft Copilot, and now the tech giant’s AI assistant has updated its free tier. The OpenAI model, GPT-4 Turbo, is now available for free to all Copilot users, previously restricted to Pro users. To use OpenAI’s most powerful language model, users must select the Copilot conversation style in either creative or accurate mode.
In addition to this, Copilot Pro users still have the option to switch back to older models if they want to use the switch. Informing about the same, Microsoft Advertising and Web Services CEO Mikhail Parakhin shared the message on X and wrote, “After his work, GPT4-Turbo replaced GPT-4 at the Copilot-free level. Pro users can still choose the older model if they want (the switch does).
“GPT-4 Turbo now offers this experience to free Copilot users in creative mode. Copilot Pro users can still turn GPT-4 Turbo on or off in creative mode,” a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed in a statement, reports CNET.
GPT-4 Turbo has been trained on data up to April 2023 and can handle text-to-speech prompts. Its context window can hold 128,000 characters, the largest amount available in a GPT version. The more characters the model can accept, the more text the user can enter into the model to provide additional context and improve results.
Last year, Microsoft launched Copilot to integrate AI into its platforms, and the AI assistant is available online and has also been added to Bing, Windows 11, the Edge browser, and Microsoft 365. Copilot Pro costs $20 per month per user and includes more AI-powered features in Office apps, as well as priority access to new OpenAI models and improved imaging tools. According to Microsoft, Copilot Pro helps users with writing, coding, research and even learning.
Is GPT-4.5 Turbo enabled?
OpenAI is rumored to be developing a new model called GPT-4.5 Turbo. While the tech giant has remained tight-lipped about future GPT iterations, Reddit users noticed earlier this week that OpenAI mistakenly published a blog post saying that GPT-4.5 Turbo will surpass GPT-4 Turbo in terms of speed, accuracy and scalability, according to CNET.
The media further added that although the blog article was soon removed from the OpenAI website, it appears that an updated GPT model will be released soon. It also suggests that if Microsoft intends to differentiate its Copilot version by delivering a better model at the premium level, the company may look to introduce the GPT-4.5 Turbo to the Copilot Pro at the launch of the new model.
