Midjourney AI Image Generator to Compete with Photoshop with Introduction of ‘Vary (Region)’ Function
Text-to-image generation has been a remarkable achievement in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). This year, digital art has reached unprecedented levels, with artists utilizing AI to create exceptional and captivating pieces in record time. Additionally, prominent platforms have emerged, aiming to provide the most enticing features to attract users. Leading players in this domain include Dall-E, Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, and Photoshop AI Generative Fill. Many designers and artists have regarded Photoshop as a dominant tool due to its extensive range of tools and capabilities. However, Midjourney has recently introduced a groundbreaking feature called ‘vary (region)’, which has the potential to revolutionize the industry and position it as a formidable competitor to Photoshop.
Midjourney has recently added a new feature called “vary”. This feature is also known as painting, filling, or just filling. This feature allows users to take any image created by Midjourney and either add an object or subject to any part of the image, or change an already existing image into something else.
Interestingly, this feature was already present in Photoshop Generative Fill since May 2023, but now Midjourney is catching up and giving users another option.
Midjourney is allowed to vary the (area) property
Imagine a picture of a valley with a house, sun, clouds and a river flowing in front of it. Now you like this image, but it seems too basic to you. You can now use the varia (area) feature to add a garden to the front of the house. Or a front yard with a car standing in front of it. You can even add a bridge over the river or people swimming in the river. This feature gives you much more control over the final image produced by Midjourney. It also leaves room for improvisation once you’ve written the prompt.
To access this feature, click the variation button (region) in Discord’s Midjourney UI and select either the rectangular selection tool or the lasso tool. Use it to highlight the area where you want to apply the feature and click Submit to let the AI take over and change that part of the image. You can also type “/settings” to enable remix mode to see a text box next to the editor that allows you to add text prompts to control the object or topic being created.
This feature makes Midjourney a viable contender for Photoshop, and at $10 monthly and $96 annual subscription fee, it’s also a more affordable option compared to Photoshop Generative Fill’s $240 annual subscription fee.
It’s worth remembering that even though you have to pay a higher price, Photoshop offers you the most versatile tools to thoroughly edit or create an image.
