Next month, OnePlus may introduce its inaugural smartwatch powered by WearOS.
OnePlus continues its momentum from the beginning of the year, with several releases expected next month. The company has launched the OnePlus 12 series this month for India, and in February we could see the brand moving into the wearables category again. The OnePlus Watch 2 could be part of the company’s Mobile World Congress 2024 (MWC 2024) lineup in Barcelona next month.
It could also be the first OnePlus watch to use the WearOS platform, suggesting that the first-generation operating system will no longer be continued. By moving to WearOS, OnePlus can focus on the hardware and give it the right push to make it an attractive option for buyers.
The details of the hints about this release are interesting because MWC is the platform where we mostly see phone launches, so the announcement of a smartwatch will certainly bring its own interest.
The first OnePlus Watch showed its weaknesses due to software that did not match other wearable platforms on the market. But with the second-generation OnePlus Watch expected to run WearOS, people aren’t just expecting more features, but also a seamless way to track their fitness readings.
Google and Samsung have developed a new version of WearOS that debuted with the Galaxy Watch 4 series a few years ago. The two tech giants have come together to challenge Apple’s dominance in the wearables segment with the Watch. The proliferation of more WearOS brands gives Google more opportunities to compete with the platform, and at the same time buyers have more choice in the Android space as well. If the OnePlus Watch 2 is launched at MWC 2024 next month, it is likely that the brand will make the product available in the coming weeks.
