Paul McCartney Declares No Artificial Ingredients in Beatles Track Created with AI
Following a social media buzz, Paul McCartney has provided further details about the use of artificial intelligence in The Beatles’ upcoming song. During a recent BBC radio interview, the British music legend revealed that the band would be incorporating the voice of the late John Lennon into the track using AI. However, the technology’s ethical implications have sparked debate among fans, with some expressing concerns on social media, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Seeing the confusion from fans, Paul took to Twitter and wrote: “It was great to see such an exciting response to our upcoming Beatles project. No one is more excited to share something with you later this year.”
“We’ve seen some confusion and speculation about it. It seems like there’s a lot of guesswork out there. I can’t say too much at this point, but to be clear, nothing is artificially or synthetically created. It’s all real and we’re all playing with it. We cleaned up some existing recordings – a process that has been going on for years. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. More news in due course,” he added.
McCartney’s first announcement last week revealed how the new song even came about and what inspired them to finish it.
“When we came to make the last Beatles record, John had a demo,” McCartney explained during the interview. “We were able to clean John’s voice with this AI. Then we can mix the record like you normally would.”
At the time, the 2021 Beatles documentary Get Back, directed by Peter Jackson, forced them to finish the song because, McCartney said, Jackson “could pull John’s voice out of the ropey little cassette”.
“We had John’s voice and the piano and he was able to separate them with AI,” he added. “They say to the machine, ‘That’s a sound. This is a guitar. Lose the guitar.”
