Philips Hue Introduces Home Security with New Secure Cameras
Signify, the company that emerged from Philips and is famous for its Hue lighting products, has revealed a fresh line of security products that will directly rival Ring and Nest. These new offerings, set to hit the market in the coming months, encompass Philips Hue Secure cameras in both wired and wireless (battery-powered) options. These cameras boast a high-definition 1080p video stream with night vision capabilities.
You can use the cameras to talk to a guest or driver outside your door, and you can program them to work with Hue lights and sound alarms to deter intruders. Devices can notify you of movements, but it has the ability to distinguish between pets, packages or people. Signify also says that end-to-end encryption is enabled by default, so your material remains private. The new Hue Secure cameras can be used indoors or outdoors, and you can support a wired version with its desktop mount. Both will be available this fall, although the wired camera is slightly cheaper at $218 (€200) than the $273 (€250) battery version.
However, if you want something specifically for outdoor use, you can also get the Philips Hue Secure spotlight camera. When you trigger the light alarm from the Hue app, it will instantly illuminate a large area in any color to help deter potential intruders. This will come out later, in the first quarter of 2024, and will be priced at $382 (€350).
In addition to the aforementioned security cameras, the new Philips Hue collection also includes touch sensors. You can attach them to doors, windows and other places so that you will be notified if someone opens them. In addition, you can program them to work with Hue lights so that they turn on or off if the sensors detect doors being opened or closed. The sensors will be available this fall in black and white for $44 (€40) each or $76 (€70) for a two-pack.
The company has also updated its app with the addition of a new security center to make it easier to use all the protected devices you buy. You can trigger alarms, flash lights and sound the Secure camera’s siren from there. It also provides a quick way to call local authorities or a trusted contact so they can check on your home if you’re away.
