Pixel users are facing issues with Messages app in Android 14 beta, fix is rolling out now

Pixel users running Android 14 beta will not be able to use the Messages app on their device. The new beta version crashes the Messages app and won’t even open if the Pixel phone is set to a light theme.

The issue seems to be limited to the Android 14 beta for now and interestingly, some users found the Messages app open in dark mode and even then it won’t let you access the messaging app.

This strange situation has led many to delete the Android 14 beta updates, while some considered leaving the beta program and getting the stable release running on their Pixel phone. The problem has been detected in the beta version “20230428_01_RC00” and Google absolutely needs to fix the problem or risk losing many beta testers due to the problem.

Developers and testers have been advised to long-press the Messages app, click App details, and uninstall updates to make the app work as before. But even these steps have not produced the desired effect.

So now it’s up to Google to fix it, and 48 hours later, the company has released a new beta version of Android 14 with a fix for the Messages app crashing issue. People can now safely install updates through the Play Store and use the Messages app on their Pixel phones as normal.

Android 14 beta is currently available for compatible Pixel devices, starting with the Pixel 4 series. Nothing is bringing a beta version to its Phone 1 any time soon either. Google will talk more about Android 14 at next week’s I/O 2023 keynote.

According to reports, the new version aims to strengthen Android’s privacy features and add additional tools. In addition to Android 14, Google is expected to introduce the new Pixel 7a smartphone as well as the first ever Pixel Fold device.
