Possibility of Three Models in Google Pixel 9 Series This Year, Expected Launch of Pixel 9 Pro XL
The launch of the Google Pixel 9 is still a long way off, but that doesn’t stop us from getting some interesting updates on the upcoming Pixel flagship series. The Pixel 8 series has shown us that Google is ready to deliver the basics in a sophisticated way, and 2024 could be the “XL” for the Pixel lineup on the market. That’s right, we might see Google bring back the Pixel XL name this year, except it might be part of the Pixel 9 Pro lineup.
It’s interesting to hear that Google is adding a Pro XL model to the Pixel 9 lineup, with the latest update coming via several leaks recently. The Pixel 9 Pro XL is definitely a mouthful and will compete with the iPhone 16 Pro Max version, which should also be released later this year.
Google Pixel 9 Pro XL launch in 2024: What to expect?
The XL part of the Pixel 9 Pro could mean you get a large 6.7- or 6.8-inch screen, making it the same size as the iPhone Pro Max version. Pro Max sales clearly suggest that there is a market and people out there who like big, heavy phones, but whether they want something like that from Google is another matter. The vanilla Pixel 9 is expected to have a 6-inch display, while the Pixel 9 Pro will have a 6.1-inch display.
The main reason for bringing the Pixel 9 Pro XL is not just the size, but to satisfy the appetite of people who want more rear cameras, what the Pro Max does for iPhone users.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL also allows Google to widen the price gap between all three models, something Samsung and Apple have been doing for several years. That being said, Google’s pricing strategy has always raised eyebrows, so it’s imperative that the Pixel 9 Pro XL doesn’t go high into the price stratosphere, putting it out of reach for most people.
We’ll be waiting with interest to see if Google plans to add a new member to the Pixel 9 series, but in the meantime, the company might add a new Pixel A series phone as soon as next month. Google I/O 2024 is confirmed for May 14th, and it’s the platform we’ve got a new Pixel phone for, and the Pixel 8a could be announced during a keynote over a month away.
