Realme Leaves German Market Following Dispute with Nokia
Realme has officially announced its withdrawal from the German smartphone market and has ceased all business operations in the region, according to a report by NextPit. The Chinese company attributed its decision to the decline in sales and it follows a similar move by other brands such as vivo and OPPO.
Now Nokia has clear power in the German market, when the three major smartphone manufacturers Oppo, vivo and Realme are leaving the market.
OPPO and vivo at Nokia
Vivo’s view not to renew the patent license agreement with Nokia had backfired. Regarding the matter, Nokia took legal action in Germany, as a result of which the regional court in Mannheim declared Nokia the only German patent in the vivo trial.
According to Nokia Power User, Vivo may plan to appeal the court’s decision or continue negotiations with Nokia. But for now it is set to leave the market.
Just like vivo, OPPO suffered a setback at the Mannheim district court when it ruled in favor of Nokia on patents, finding that the Chinese company violated Nokia’s SEP agreements covering 4G and 5G technology.
After a successful legal battle, OPPO was found to have infringed Nokia’s SEP patents. In response, Nokia has also launched similar litigation against OPPO in Australia and other markets where the infringement occurred. Oppo is also in a similar situation in the UK court. Nokia has brought the same charges against Oppo in a British court.
In 2021, Nokia filed patent infringement charges against OPPO and appealed to several markets in Europe and Asia.
Disagreements aside, Nokia has successfully entered into royalty licensing agreements with well-known companies such as Lenovo, Samsung, Xiaomi, Apple, LG and Blackberry.
