Here’s the reason why prices of 4G smartphones in India may decrease by the end of this year.
If you’ve been planning to buy or upgrade your phone, now might be a good time. This week, several reports suggested that prices of 4G smartphones could drop as retailers look to clear their inventory before the end of 2023.
It is estimated that the prices of 4G phones in India will be reduced by 10-20 percent (up to Rs 2,000) in the coming days, which may help sellers clear their stocks before the end of the year.
You could say that buying a 4G phone at a time when 5G networks have expanded rapidly does not make sense. But considering the price difference and the limited usage of 5G networks in the country, 4G phones are still a very good option, at least for a few more years, if not more.
Analysts have pointed out that vendors took extra stock of 4G phones to manage increased demand during the festive season, but it appears that 5G phones had a better share of sales between August and October this year. Keeping unsold units creates more problems for these dealers, who would rather sell them at a lower price than let them rot in storage, which is a sensible decision any day.
With the 5G services launched in October last year and the rapid expansion of the network throughout the country, 5G phones are clearly the apple of consumers’ eyes. However, the price levels of 5G phones have kept entry-level buyers from upgrading, and they can now look at cheaper 4G options that can be picked up for under Rs 10,000.
Other reports suggest that retailers want higher margins from brands to sell 4G phones, a win-win situation. Many people still ask us if it makes sense to buy a 4G phone, and our answer is yes, especially since the data speed differences between 4G and 5G data are not there in much of the country.
