Robots and Freighter Combat Added to ‘No Man’s Sky’ in Latest Update
No Man’s Sky, a game that was initially unsuccessful upon its release seven years ago, has undergone significant updates by developer Hello Games. These updates have gradually enhanced the game’s features and popularity, surpassing the initial expectations. This year alone, three substantial updates have been released, and now a fourth update, No Man’s Sky: Echos, has been introduced to celebrate the game’s seventh anniversary.
The update brings some cool new gameplay elements, such as sentient robot competition, which promises “rich, new story content” and the ability to create your own robot avatar for battles and resource gathering. You can count on abundant robot-centric missions and all kinds of resources that you can collect and use for construction projects.
Space combat is also getting an overhaul, with an emphasis on “massive space battles” with pirate cargo ships. Echos pits freighters against other freighters for the first time, leading to some truly nasty and epic space encounters. There are also new mechanics for protecting fleets from pirates.
Those are the two big highlights, but the update doesn’t stop there. Players can now find and trade weapons, including the newly released Atlas weapon. There’s also a new holographic museum that lets you display your favorite finds in your base when other players visit.
In addition to game elements, Echos fixes bugs and improves “rendering quality, stability, and performance.” PSVR2 players get a graphics boost with foveated rendering, and Switch players get anti-aliasing for a sharper image both on handheld and in docked mode.
Of course, it is likely that Hello Games will release this update now, at the end of August. No Man’s Sky has never had competition in the “fly around the universe and goof around” genre, but Bethesda’s Starfield is coming out on the 6th. September
