Samsung employees were banned from using ChatGPT on office devices and networks
Samsung has reportedly banned its employees from using generative AI, including ChatGPT, on office devices such as computers, tablets and phones. According to Bloomberg, this ban also applies to personal devices running on internal company networks.
This development follows the leak of sensitive internal data on ChatGPT last month, and the ban is not limited to ChatGPT. The ban also covers other generative AI chatbots, such as Microsoft Bing and Google Bard.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman notes that Samsung is “concerned” about sending data to generative AI platforms, including Google Bard and Bing, because it is stored on external servers. This makes it difficult to retrieve and delete, which can lead to the leakage of sensitive company information to third parties.

According to a memo Samsung sent to employees, “Interest in generative AI platforms such as ChatGPT has grown internally and externally,” and “while this interest focuses on the utility and efficiency of these platforms, there is also growing concern about the security risks posed by generative AI.”
Samsung’s new policy does not apply to devices sold to consumers, which include devices such as Galaxy smartphones and Windows laptops, but the company has issued strict guidelines for the use of generative AI in devices released by the company.
“We ask that you diligently follow our security guidelines, failure to do so may result in a breach or compromise of company information, resulting in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment,” Samsung relayed to employees.
In addition, the South Korean technology giant is investigating the development of its own artificial intelligence service to solve the problem. The service would be able to translate and condense documents and support software development.
