Say Goodbye to Long-Press Notifications: Android 14 Has Arrived!
The American technology giant Google has removed from the latest Android 14 update the ability to preview notifications by long pressing the app icons on the home screen. This feature, which allows users to quickly check notifications without unlocking their devices, is no longer available.
Previously, you could check app notifications by long-pressing an app icon on the home screen or in the app drawer. If there were several notifications, only the first one is displayed in its entirety with the number of notifications. Users had the option to open or reject the notification by swiping.
“This was useful if the notification area was full of alerts, while it went hand-in-hand with the notification area, which still feels more iOS-specific than Android-specific,” according to a 9to5Google report.
The report revealed that in Android 14, when you long-press an icon, you’ll see app shortcuts, along with App info, Suspend app, and Widgets. Notifications will no longer appear in this menu. Instead, Google created a separate list at the top for these three shortcuts, increasing their visibility.
Google confirmed this change when it ran the Android 14 Beta program over the summer. According to the report, the tech giant removed the long press notification feature from Android 14 as it wants to make things easier for users.
Long pressing the icon to see notifications was only possible on Android devices, which might confuse some people. By removing this feature, the company wants to create a consistent and user-friendly user experience for all Android 14 users, according to the report.
Meanwhile, OnePlus recently confirmed that its OnePlus 11 smartphone in India will receive the stable OxygenOS 14 update based on Android 14.
