Sony introduces the PlayStation Project Q, an 8-inch handheld remote for the PS5
Sony has just wrapped up the PlayStation Showcase by showing off new IPs, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and, to everyone’s surprise, even hardware, including a new 8-inch handheld remote for PlayStation Project Q for PS5.
During the closing moments of the showcase, just before the announcement of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan gave a glimpse of what everyone can expect from the PlayStation 5’s dedicated remote-play handheld system, saying: “We’re launching a standalone device that lets you stream any games from the PS5 console using Remote Play over Wi-Fi.”
Jim mentioned that the system is known internally as “Project Q” (probably not a retail name) and retains all the original features of the Sony DualSense controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.
According to Sony, the PlayStation Q will be able to play compatible games installed on users’ PS5 consoles using Remote Play, but over Wi-Fi. In addition, the device has an 8-inch LCD screen that can play games in 1080P resolution up to 60 frames per second.
Sony also introduced the wireless PlayStation headset designed for the PS5 console and PC. The Japanese gaming giant claims the headset features “new wireless technology developed by SIE” and also “delivers lossless audio with low latency for a high-quality audio experience.”
Sony has not revealed an exact release date for the PlayStation Q handheld and PlayStation wireless headset, but has claimed that more details will be “announced in the coming months”.
