Sony’s PlayStation 5 To Be Released This Year: Get Details On Price And More
Sony has officially announced more details about its PlayStation Portal Remote Player, formerly known as PlayStation Project Q. This includes the price, full specifications and functionality that users can expect from a standalone handheld remote.
The device is designed to stream PS5 games via Wi-Fi to the device’s 8-inch IPS 1080p screen at 60 fps. It resembles the PlayStation DualSense controller; simply put, it resembles a screen attached to the center of a shared DualSense controller.
Naturally, PlayStation Portal has all the original DualSense features, such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. This ensures that users get a perfect gaming experience even during remote gaming.
“PlayStation Portal connects remotely to PS5 via Wi-Fi, so you can quickly transition from playing on PS5 to PlayStation Portal,” said Hideaki Nishino, Director of Platform Experience at SIE. He added: “PlayStation Portal can play supported games installed on your PS5 console that use the DualSense controller.”
However, Sony also notes that the PlayStation Portal Remote Player does not support PS VR2 games that require a headset, nor “games streamed via PlayStation Plus Premium cloud streaming.”
The remote control has a 3.5 mm headphone jack for wired audio. However, the noticeable lack is Bluetooth support. Because of this, existing wireless headsets, including Sony’s own Pulse 3D, cannot be used with PlayStation Portal. Instead, Sony has introduced a technology called PlayStation Link. To complement this technology, they offer the new PlayStation Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore headsets, both of which offer “lossless audio.”
PlayStation Portal, Pulse Elite, Pulse Explore: Price and Availability
PlayStation Project Q retails for $199 (roughly Rs. 17,000) in the US. Although Sony has not announced an exact release date, they are aiming for a release later this year. As for the pricing of PlayStation Portal in India, it is still undisclosed. This is not surprising as the PSVR 2 system has already been released in many regions worldwide but is yet to debut in India.
The Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore are available for $149 and $199, respectively. Sony has announced that more information will be released soon.
