Survey Reveals Teenagers Open to Being Monitored by Parents on Mobile Devices

Parents have long been concerned about the safety of their teenage children, as crime rates continue to rise. However, there is now a shift in awareness among teenagers themselves, who are taking proactive measures to ensure their own safety and that of their loved ones. The extent to which teenagers are willing to go for the sake of safety is astonishing, as revealed by a recent survey. Surprisingly, millions of teenagers willingly choose to be tracked by their parents, believing that it contributes to their overall safety. This contradicts the portrayal of location tracking in movies and TV shows. Discover the true sentiments of today’s generation towards location tracking.

Location tracking for security

According to a Wall Street Journal report, GenZ ages 11 to 26 use family monitoring apps or features to create a sense of protection. Technologies such as Apple Find My, Google Family Link, Snapchat Snap Map and GPS smartwatches allow families to track each other. The report stated, “In a recent survey by Life360, Gen Z respondents said they share their location while driving, when they go on dates, and when they attend concerts and other large gatherings. Many have location sharing turned on all the time.”

Now teenagers are more aware of the heinous crimes happening around them and are very open with their parents and keep them informed about where they are going. According to the Life360 survey, the use of location tracking varies by situation, while many like to share when out and about, many families keep their location status active all the time. Research reveals that 87 percent of GenZ want to share their location during a long-distance drive. 80 percent share their location when visiting unusual places and 77 percent when attending concerts, events or festivals. 78 percent of people share their location on dates or parties.

A whopping 94% of Gen Z respondents surveyed said location sharing benefits their lives in many ways. This suggests that today’s generation is embracing security innovations as a way to stay connected to friends and family, improve security and make life more comfortable.
