Teenagers: Get Ready to Talk to Google’s AI Chatbot Bard!
Google has expanded the artificial intelligence chatbot Bard to teenagers in most countries of the world. AI chatbot Bard is now available for teenagers to manage their own Google Account, starting in English, with more languages added over time.
According to Google, teenagers can use Bard to find inspiration, discover new hobbies and solve everyday problems. For example, they can ask Bard for tips on how to write a valedictorian speech, suggestions on which universities to apply to, or ways to learn a new sport like pickleball.
To use Bard, teenagers must meet certain age requirements determined by their location.
In the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland and the UK, the minimum age is 18, while in other countries where it is, it is either 13 or the age according to their regional regulations.
Sign up for Bard by following these simple instructions
– If teenagers do not have a Google account, they must create one by entering their name, email address and password on the Google account registration page.
– After creating a Google account, they can visit Bard’s website
– Bard guides teenagers through a short orientation process and explains how to use the chatbot responsibly.
– Resources are provided, such as a video with tips for responsible use and an overview of Bard operations.
– Once the process is complete, teenagers can start using Bard to chat, ask questions and create text.
– They can access Bard from the Bard website or through the Bard app.
“We’ve trained Bard to identify areas that are inappropriate for younger users and implement safety features and guardrails to help prevent dangerous content, such as illegal or adult material, from appearing in its responses to teenagers,” Google said.
The tech giant said in a blog post that Bard can also be a useful learning tool for teenagers, allowing them to delve deeper into topics, better understand complex concepts and practice new skills.
For example, they could ask Bard to help them come up with project ideas for a science fair or learn more about a certain period in history.
“To make learning more interactive, we’re bringing the math learning experience to Bard. Anyone, including teenagers, can simply type or upload a picture of a math equation, and Bard doesn’t just provide the answer — it shares step-by-step explanations of how to solve it,” Google said.
Bard can also help with data visualization. This new feature allows Bard to create graphs from tables or data contained in a prompt—for example, if a teenager asks Bard to show in a bar graph how many hours they volunteered over a few months.
