Tool Offers Parents Deeper Understanding of Teen’s Discord Activity at Family Center
Discord is introducing Family Center, a fresh tool designed to keep parents and guardians informed about their teenagers’ activities on the platform. The company aims to assist both teens and parents in cultivating healthier online behaviors through this tool.
The new Family Center utility consists of two parts: an activity dashboard and a weekly email summary. The dashboard gives parents an idea of how many people their kids have messaged or called, as well as how many friends they’ve added and how many servers they’re connected to at any given time. The Weekly Summary is all of that, but in an email sent out every week.
Family Center joins all the parental control tools already on Discord, giving both teens and guardians more options to customize their experience on the platform. Tools like direct message and clear image filtering, friend request settings, and blocking users have helped teens stay safe on Discord.
While Discord’s new Family Center tool is a step in the right direction, the company has a lot of work to do to make its platform a safe space not only for teenagers but also for adults. Last month, it was reported that Discord was in hot water for a surprising amount regarding the safety of children on the platform. Hopefully Family Center can help reduce these incidents on Discord.
