Top streaming picks this week: Barbenheimer, ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’, and K-pop sensation TVXQ

Coming soon to your device are ABC’s multi-city New Year’s Eve special and fresh music from the K-pop group TVXQ, along with other exciting television shows, movies, and music.

Among the streaming offerings selected by Associated Press entertainment editors are a true crime story about Max, a new version of “America’s Got Talent” and a streaming guide to the year’s best movies.

NEW MOVIES SUPPLIED

— At the turn of the year, most of the film activity is in cinemas. But if you’re not going to see “The Color Purple,” “Poor Things” or “Ferrari,” there’s no better time to check out the best movies of the year. Many of the movies that made it into the top 10 from Me and AP Film Writer Lindsey Bahr are available for streaming in various places.

If you haven’t checked out the “Barbie” or “Oppenheimer” movies, you can digitally rent Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster Biology, while Greta Gerwig’s Pink Phenomenon is streaming on Max. Alexander Payne’s masterfully melancholic “The Holdovers,” starring Paul Giamatti, is also available for digital rental, as is Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla Presley drama “Priscilla.”

Netflix has Todd Haynes’ compelling arc “May December” and the dazzling animated sequel “Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse.” On Prime Video, you can catch a couple of standouts from the previous year: A.V. Rockwell’s sprawling New York story “A Thousand and Ones” and Wes Anderson’s artfully layered “Asteroid City.” And if you’re looking for something further afield, look no further than “The Eight Mountains,” a majestic epic of friendship streaming on the Criterion Channel.

PERFORMING NEW MUSIC

— 2024 is off to a great start with “America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League” hosted by Terry Crews.
