Twitter Blue in India Costs More on Android Than PC: Here’s Why

Twitter Blue is coming to India for both PC and mobile users this week. Elon Musk has revamped the subscription service since he took over the platform in October last year, which meant Twitter Blue was offered to more countries, including India.

Twitter Blue helps people get a verified token (*blue tick) on their account and a number of other benefits, such as fewer ads appearing on their Twitter feed.

But the biggest surprise that has come with this development is the price of Twitter Blue subscription in India. Twitter asks users to pay Rs 900 per month on Android and iOS devices, while those who get their Twitter Blue account on the web will pay Rs 650 per month. So why is there a difference of Rs 250 in subscription price of Twitter Blue between web and mobile?

Although Twitter has not given the exact reason for the higher price, it is possible that Elon Musk and Co. have taken into account the 30 percent commission that both Google and Apple charge for apps in their respective app stores.

Musk has repeatedly expressed his displeasure with this strategy, calling it the Apple/Google taxi. Twitter is launching Blue at different price points on these devices, it seems like Musk has kept the extra cost in mind, suggesting that people would be better off buying a subscription through the online version.

However, we are not sure if Twitter will offer a verified ID and other Twitter Blue benefits to the same user on their mobile app. The new-look Twitter Blue debuted last year and is priced at $11 for users in the US, for example.

Many believed that Musk has a different pricing strategy in a market like India, but Twitter Blue at Rs 900 per month, as many have said, is more expensive than the country’s 4K UHD premium Netflix plan.

Twitter Blue offers a verified ID, promises to show you only 50 percent of ads soon, boosts the reach of your profile and tweets to a wider audience. You can also tweet up to 4,000 characters (for now in some countries) and download Full HD videos. You can also edit tweets and access beta features.
