Twitter Experiences Prolonged Outage, Many Users Encountering Problems
A number of individuals are encountering issues with accessing Twitter as it seems that the micro-blogging platform is currently unavailable for them.
According to the outage tracking website Downdetector.com, users started reporting problems around 5:00 p.m. Later, the number of complaints started to increase and currently – even after 10pm – users are still having trouble using the platform owned by Elon Musk.
Considering that the outage started affecting users around 5:00 PM and is still affecting them, this is one of the longest outages the microblogging platform has experienced – currently around 4 hours at the time of writing. Twitter has yet to acknowledge the outage or issue any statements about the problem.
Twitter users complain about many issues ranging from not being able to retrieve tweets to the error message “speed limit exceeded”.
The hashtag #TwitterDown is also trending on Twitter, and it seems that not everyone has a problem with the platform. We can use the website and the iOS app without any problems.
Update: Elon Musk tweeted that Twitter has implemented “temporary limits” to address “extreme data scraping and system manipulation.” It is possible that the “speed limit exceeded” problems are caused by this temporary restriction. Verified users can read 6,000 messages per day, unverified accounts can read 600 messages per day, and new unverified accounts can only read 300 messages per day.
