Twitter Unveils Updated Tweetdeck After Original Version Experiences Technical Issues

If you have been experiencing difficulties with Twitter lately, you are not the only one. The platform has been facing problems since it implemented restrictions on the number of posts users can view daily. While some of the issues on the platform have been resolved over the weekend, Tweetdeck continues to be dysfunctional unless users switch to the beta version of the list aggregator. In an effort to address this problem, Twitter has decided to make the beta version of Tweetdeck the primary version. On Monday, they announced the launch of a new and enhanced version of Tweetdeck.

Despite the official release, this “new” Tweetdeck still calls itself “Tweetdeck Preview” in the app, and users still have to choose to use it in the menu of the original Tweetdeck interface. That said, switching to the new interface really does bring back Tweetdeck’s basic functionality for users who rely on its list-merging features. Twitter says the process should be pretty straightforward, too, promising that saved searches, lists, and columns will migrate instantly. While Twitter says the updated preview build should now support Twitter Spaces, polls, and other features that were previously missing, it notes that the Teams functionality is currently unavailable.

Twitter hasn’t officially announced that it will be removing the old version of Tweetdeck, but in a thread on the topic, a Twitter employee suggested that the change would be permanent, stating that they were “moving everyone to the preview version.”

While switching to a new version of Tweetdeck may solve the problem, many legacy users may still find themselves without a power user tool for the foreseeable future. According to Twitter support, the feature will only come to Twitter Blue subscribers in the near future, noting that “within 30 days, users must be verified to access Tweetdeck.” It’s unclear if the change will apply to all users in early August, or if all users will receive a 30-day trial of the new Tweetdeck before subscription prompts.
