Two Million Strong: What’s Next for Bluesky?
Bluesky, a decentralized social network application, was introduced in February of this year (with a simplified version released in October 2022) as a substitute for X (previously known as Twitter). The app has experienced significant growth and has now surpassed a noteworthy milestone of 2 million users. Moving forward, Bluesky aims to broaden its user base by enabling access to the platform through federation networks, thereby eliminating the previous invite-only system. A milestone for Bluesky users
According to a report by The Verge, the Twitter-like social networking app has reached the 2 million user mark just 2 months after reaching the million app audience. The app also plans to make it available on different platforms by launching a web interface that will allow users to access the app through the website as well. Previously, only Bluesky app users who were Logged in to the app could access links shared in messages. The Bluesky web interface allows users to open messages on the website without an account.
The lack of a website created problems for the app to attract a larger Bluesky audience. Now that there are plans to release a web interface, it can be useful to bring new users to the social media platform. Bluesky is applying for a federated network (also known as fediverse) next year, as it currently operates as a decentralized platform through its AT protocol. When the company opens it up, users can freely migrate from other platforms to Bluesky without having to start from scratch.
Bluesky, in an effort to make the platform more attractive and credible, recently announced several new features such as mobile push notifications, email verification and accessibility features that improve the performance of the platform. Now, when this new movement comes next year, it will gain more user base like Twitter. The app also contacted journalists and news organizations to confirm. Additionally, it prompts users to share posts and interact on the platform to gain exposure.
