Unexpected Outcome! iPhone 14’s Crash Detection Feature Causes Havoc at Bonaroo Music Festival
The spotlight is once again on the crash detection feature of the Apple iPhone 14, but this time for negative reasons. On the opening day of the Bonaroo Music and Art Festival, several iPhone 14 users accidentally made numerous 911 emergency calls, causing chaos in a Tennessee county.
A new Apple iPhone 14 emergency feature was introduced last year and is called the “collision detection feature”. This is an automatic feature of the phone that alerts the authorities if the owner has been in a crash and is unable to use the phone due to injuries.
However, during the festival, the iPhone made false emergency calls while the owners were dancing!
According to Scott LeDuc, director of the Coffee County 911 Communications Center, there were five times the number of false calls made compared to the average number of 911 calls. “Our employees really stepped up, like first responders always really step up to their duties, and they did,” LeDuc said.
In fact, there were so many false calls that it endangered those who might need emergency help elsewhere in the county, because the authorities could not afford anyone.
To end the chaos that ensued, an alert was sent to iPhone users to disable the fall detection feature. Although this was a drastic step, it was felt necessary to ensure that these false calls do not happen again.

The new emergency feature was introduced in 2022 on devices such as iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and also Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Ultra. The feature is activated when the user is unable to send an emergency notification in an emergency situation.
According to Apple, the owner’s phone or watch will automatically call 911 after a 20-second delay if you can’t answer.
So while the iPhone glitch caused chaos, a significant part of the whole problem was the laudable role of the authorities. They attended every call to make sure no one was really hurt who might need help. In fact, every caller was present in this company.
