Verification Required to Use TweetDeck According to Elon Musk’s Twitter
On Monday, Twitter announced that users will soon be required to undergo verification in order to access TweetDeck, according to a tweet from the social media company.
The change will take effect in 30 days, the company says.
Twitter announced in a tweet about an improved version of TweetDeck with new features.
It was unclear whether Twitter will charge users for both the new and the old version of TweetDeck. Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Charging for TweetDeck, which was previously free and is widely used by businesses and news organizations to monitor content, could boost revenue for Twitter, which has struggled to maintain ad revenue under billionaire Elon Musk’s ownership.
The move comes just days after Musk said both verified and unverified users would have a limit on the number of messages they could read per day “to address extreme data scraping and system manipulation.”
His announcement sparked a backlash from users on Twitter, with advertising experts saying it would undermine new CEO Linda Yaccarino, who took over the job last month.
Individuals have to pay $8 per month to verify their account, while organizations pay $1,000 per month.
