WhatsApp Enables Pinning of Messages in Chats and Groups
After rolling out two new privacy features on its platform, Meta-owned WhatsApp has now rolled out another new feature that allows users to pin messages to chats and groups. With this feature, it is now possible to pin a message to the beginning of a conversation, making it easier to find it later.
“After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.23.1.73 update available on the TestFlight app, we noticed that WhatsApp is rolling out this feature on the iOS app as well,” WABetaInfo reported.
The new Pinned Message feature is available in the contextual message menu and allows users to pin a selected message to the beginning of their conversation, simplifying the highlighting of important or frequently referenced messages.
According to the report, the feature is also available in individual chats. Additionally, the instant messaging app is testing this option by expanding its availability to users who install the latest versions from the App Store. However, it may take some time before they are rolled out to a wider audience.
The Pinned Message option differs from the feature offered by other instant messaging apps, as users can also precisely control how long a message remains prominently displayed in their conversations. Users can choose from three different durations: 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days.
The report revealed that it is possible to discard a pinned message at any time, even before the selected time has elapsed. According to WABetaInfo, this feature is available to some beta testers who install the latest versions of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app. It will be rolled out to more users in the coming days.
WhatsApp is also developing an alternative profile feature as a new tool to mask your information. A new alternate profile feature is available on the profile picture privacy screen and allows users to set an alternate picture and name that will be displayed to contacts who cannot see their primary profile information.
