WhatsApp To Introduce Password Protection For Private Chats

WhatsApp, an instant messaging app owned by Meta, is developing a passcode feature for locked conversations. The feature is different from the phone’s master password and gives users more control over their locked conversations.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, this improvement will significantly improve the privacy of your conversations, even in the event that someone gets access to your phone. Locked conversations are always listed in a separate section that can only be accessed with your phone’s PIN code or biometric authentication.

“Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.21.8 update available on the Google Play Store, we noticed that WhatsApp is looking for new ways to unlock this section of the app,” WABetaInfo said.

A screenshot shared in the report revealed that WhatsApp plans to introduce a new feature for locked chats to allow users to set a secret code.

“This development is not entirely surprising given that WhatsApp had previously hinted at a custom password feature for locked chats in a blog post several months ago, and it appears that the Meta-owned app is now actively working to improve privacy options for this feature by developing a secret passcode feature.” the report said.

It also mentioned that the feature is very useful. When users set a custom password for their secure chats, it isolates the privacy of those chats from the overall security of the phone. This means that even if someone were to gain access to the device’s password, they would not automatically have access to the secure chat folder. The secret code feature for locked chats is under development and will be available in a future update of the app.

At the same time, the instant messaging app also introduces a new search feature for the Updates tab, which allows you to search for status updates and channels within the app.

A search button can now be available in the top app bar, allowing you to search for status updates, followed channels, and even other confirmed channels.
