WhatsApp Introduces Archiving Option for Group Conversations

WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging platform owned by Meta, is reportedly rolling out a new feature that will allow users to archive community group chats.

“After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.24.8 update available from the Google Play Store, we noticed that WhatsApp is bringing some improvements to community management,” WABetaInfo reported.

A screenshot shared by WABetaInfo revealed that the community’s group chat menu has a new function called “archive chat”. This option allows users to manage community group chats as it is now possible to archive them.

This feature is especially useful for those community members who are in multiple community group chats and want to keep their chat list cleaner and more organized.

The report suggested that this feature is very useful because it was no longer possible to archive community group chats after installing the update, which improved the community’s navigation between such group chats, which definitely made the user experience worse.

“With the ability to archive community group chats, WhatsApp effectively resolves the inconvenience caused by the previous update, which removed the ability to archive community group chats. Community members can now regain control of their chat experience by archiving redundant community group chats, including the community notification group,” WABetaInfo said.

The feature to archive community group chats is available to some beta testers who install the latest WhatsApp beta updates for Android from the Google Play Store, and will roll out to more people in the coming days.
