WhatsApp Introducing Upgrades For Profile Pictures In Group Conversations
According to reports, WhatsApp, the messaging app owned by Meta, is introducing improvements to profile icons in group chats. This new feature aims to enhance the thumbnails in group chats, making it simpler to identify members who do not have a profile picture.
“After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.15.9 update available from the Google Play Store, some beta testers may be able to try the same improvements today,” WABetaInfo reported.
A screenshot shared by WABetaInfo reveals that WhatsApp has made an update to the thumbnails of contacts whose profile pictures are hidden or unavailable. Previously, WhatsApp displayed a default blank profile picture with a color matching the corresponding contact’s name to improve their identification.
Thanks to this new feature, these updated thumbnails now display the initials of each group member’s name. This improvement further helps other chat participants by allowing them to quickly identify the contact represented by the thumbnail, according to the report.
To find out if this feature is available on your WhatsApp account, you need to open a group chat and search for a message sent by a group member whose profile picture is not visible. If the contact is saved with a name that doesn’t start with special characters, you may see the first letter of their name directly in the new thumbnail.
Improvements to group chat profile icons are available for some beta testers who install the latest WhatsApp beta update for Android from the Google Play Store and will be available in the coming days.
