WhatsApp’s Status Updates Tab May See Significant Design Overhaul in the Near Future

WhatsApp has been actively introducing a number of new features to improve the user experience, primarily focusing on expanding its channel capabilities. However, recent developments suggest that the Meta-owned chat app is expanding its focus to other sections as well.

According to WABetaInfo, a source of new WhatsApp features, the messaging platform is currently revamping the interface of the Status Updates tab, as spotted in WhatsApp Beta version 2.24.4.23 of the Google Play Beta program.

The purpose of this upcoming update is to improve the usability of status updates. Status updates, currently located at the top of the Updates tab, will change to allow users to preview shared updates using thumbnails, eliminating the need to open them to reveal their content.

The new design has a card-like user interface that resembles the user interface of Facebook’s mobile application.

Once fully implemented, these updated status screens will replace the current circular style updates. Additionally, this update aligns WhatsApp’s design language with Meta’s other products, such as Facebook.

It is important to note that this change is still in development and is expected to be included in a future release of the app. Even if users install the latest beta version, they will not notice these changes.

In related news, WhatsApp has doubled down on its anti-spam efforts by allowing users to block users directly from the lock screen. This saves the time needed to block someone, as you avoid various sub-menus and unnecessary searching and opening a conversation.
