Widgets are coming back to the Apple Watch with watchOS 10 this year
Apple Watch may soon have widgets at the center of the upcoming watchOS 10 version. Apple’s popular smartwatch used to have widgets, which were replaced by apps for their ease of use.
But now reports suggest that Apple could share more details about Apple Watch widgets with the new watchOS version at the Apple WWDC 2023 event in June this year. That’s not all, watchOS 10 is likely to get “significant changes” according to Bloomberg, with widgets at the center of its focus. Widgets have been a big success on smartphones due to their intuitiveness and versatile way of using them.
They were supposed to have a similar impact on wearables as well, but so far companies haven’t been able to fully exploit its potential. Apple had it in its feature set for earlier versions of the Apple Watch, but somehow decided to trash the feature in favor of newer methods.
Apple, which is returning to widgets on the Apple Watch this year, suggests it’s ready to revamp the mechanism and give consumers more choice by bringing widgets back to Apple’s wearables.
Widgets at Apple also means the company could offer more third-party support for the Watch, which could also help improve its user experience on other platforms like Wear OS. The changes may also affect the purpose of the crown watch, which can now be tuned to support widgets instead of watchOS apps.
The WWDC 2023 keynote is next month, where we’ll learn more about the rumored return of widgets to watchOS, as well as other improvements in iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and new versions of macOS. Apple is also expected to bring its first-ever 15-inch MacBook Air to the conference this year as well. There’s a lot to unpack when Tim Cook and Co unveil their latest offerings next month.
