Xiaomi Mi 11 to get a feature only available in Galaxy Note 20 smartphones at the moment

Much has been said about the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 11 premium smartphone series, which is officially due to arrive on December 28. However, this smartphone will not be premium only in terms of specifications, but also some display features. One of the premium display features is the inclusion of the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 7 or Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

According to an article posted on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has confirmed that Mi 11 will use Corning’s next-generation Gorilla Glass. It will also be the first for any Xiaomi smartphone till date. It should be added that for now, only the Galaxy Note 20 line of smartphones comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

It remains to be seen whether the protective glass layer is better or worse than Apple’s new ceramic glass technology, which it introduced with the iPhone 12 models.

During the announcement in July this year, Corning mentioned that this glass can be used for smartphones, laptops, tablets and even portable devices. According to Corning lab tests, the Gorilla Glass Victus achieved a drop performance of up to 2 meters when dropped on hard, rough surfaces.

The firm claims that Victus has beaten Gorilla Glass 6, which currently ships with several flagship smartphones. It is also mentioned that it has four times better scratch resistance.

Instead of our historic approach of having our technologists focus on one goal – improving glass for drops or scratches – we asked them to focus on improving drops and scratches, and they delivered Gorilla Glass Victus, said John Bayne, senior vice president and general manager, Mobile Consumer Electronics.
