Zoom Launches New Feature To Help Prevent Possible Zoombombing
Zoom has been plagued by security concerns throughout this year. He also had to deal with people who easily blocked zoom meetings, also known as “Zoombombing”. Zoom has now launched a new feature that will alert conference organizers of potential Zoombombing.
The new feature is called At-Risks Meeting Notifier, and it runs continuously in the background by scanning social media posts and other sites for Zoom meeting links. Zoombombing happened due to the ease of joining Zoom calls through the online shared meeting links. The Zoombombing incidents were very alarming, with people disrupting meetings by playing indecent content. Zoom then rolled out new features that gave administrators more control over who can join meetings.
Zoom’s Risky Meeting Notifier alerts conference organizers whenever it finds a Zoom meeting URL online. An alert will be sent via email with a warning to account holders and admins that the meeting link is publicly available which may disrupt the meeting by unwanted guests. Zoom did not specify the sites it looks for meeting links on, but does mention “social networking sites and other public online resources.” The main culprits here are Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and Discord.
The Risky Meeting Notifier will be enabled by default on Zoom. It is not necessary for users to activate the feature on their end. This feature can be useful for meeting planners, especially for large meetings with multiple participants. Zoom also recommends adding passwords or meeting access codes, activating a waiting room, and registering to keep meetings private and safe from Zoombombing.
