PM Modi Urges Creation of International Guidelines for Ethical AI
During his speech at the B20 Summit India 2023, organized by CII, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the need for a worldwide framework to ensure the ethical utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He expressed concerns about the potential biases in this emerging technology, which could have significant consequences for society. Modi stressed the importance of using AI ethically to benefit all individuals, rather than a select few. He called for collaboration between nations and business leaders to achieve this common goal.
“There’s a lot of excitement in the world today about artificial intelligence. But amid the excitement, there are also some ethical considerations. In terms of reskilling and reskilling, there are concerns about algorithm drift and its impact on society. Such issues also need to be considered and solved together,” he added.
Stating that the responsibility lies with both policymakers and business, Prime Minister Modi stated that both should work together and above all ensure the ethical use of AI.
He added: “We need to sense possible disruptions in different sectors. This problem needs to be solved in a global framework.”
Progress should be based on a focus, not just on brand and sales, but far beyond so that everyone benefits. He said, “As a company, we need to focus on creating an ecosystem that will benefit us in the long term.”
Modi emphasized that a self-centered approach hurts everyone. He also emphasized that a profitable market can be maintained when the interests of producers and consumers are balanced, and that also applies to nations.
Referring to a similar challenge of uneven availability and general need for critical materials and rare earths, Modi said, “If those who have them do not see them as a global responsibility, it promotes a new model of colonialism.”
Prime Minister Modi urged business leaders to think about making companies more consumer-centric.
“When we talk about consumer rights, shouldn’t we also be aware of consumer protection, because it automatically takes care of many issues related to consumer rights? We should definitely think about International Consumer Protection Day. This will help strengthen trust between businesses and consumers,” he added.
