Microsoft Introduces Copilot: AI-Powered Unified Experience for Surface Event 2023
Today, the highly anticipated 2023 Microsoft Surface Event unveiled a range of thrilling software and gadgets from the renowned tech giant. However, the event also shed light on an intriguing development – Microsoft’s collaboration with OpenAI, which will integrate additional features of ChatGPT into Bing and introduce a brand-new AI assistant.
Starting September 26, Microsoft will release its improved Copilot companion for Windows, and on November 1, the Office AI app will be available to everyone. The move is part of Microsoft’s ongoing push to add artificial intelligence to its products.
At an event held in New York, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that Copilot creates a unified experience for different systems, applications and devices. For example, Copilot can help you find a flight reservation in your text messages. Nadella emphasized the importance of AI in a broader context, stating, “This requires that what we think of today as separate categories – search, productivity, operating systems, devices, all come together and evolve.”
Reflecting on the rapid progress since launching ChatGPT just 10 months ago, Nadella said it brings innovation and excitement. He sees it as a game changer, comparing it to the impact of PCs in the 80s and the Internet in the 90s.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of Copilot, an AI experience that adapts to your needs and works across devices and situations. It is intended to integrate with Microsoft’s most used products and experiences, including Bing, Edge, Microsoft 365 and Windows.
Nadella shared his excitement, saying, “It’s been inspiring to see what you all have done with these new features.”
What can Microsoft Copilot do?
It’s your everyday AI companion that leverages your online data, work data, and current PC functionality to provide top-notch assistance, while keeping your privacy and security a top priority. You can easily use it on Windows 11, Microsoft 365, and even in a web browser with Edge and Bing. It can run as an app or pop up when you need it with a simple right-click. Microsoft plans to expand Copilot’s features and connectivity in its most used apps over time.
Business customers can expect Microsoft 365 Copilot to be available starting November 1, with added features in Outlook, Excel, Loop, OneNote, OneDrive, and Word. Bing Chat Enterprise also gets updates, including support for multimodal visual search and Image Creator in the Microsoft Edge mobile app.
