NASA Unveils Data on Gigantic 2200-Foot Asteroid Heading Towards Earth Tomorrow

Most space scientists are constantly studying asteroids due to their potential to cause global destruction. Asteroids are rocks in space that follow specific paths. NASA has identified certain ancient cosmic rocks that could potentially collide with Earth. While most of these asteroids are located in the main asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars, some of them come close to Earth, with a few approaching within a few hundred thousand kilometers. This close proximity raises concerns about the possibility of these asteroids hitting Earth. Recently, NASA has announced the presence of a massive asteroid, named 349507 (2008 QY), which is rapidly approaching our planet. This asteroid measures 2200 feet in size.

NASA tracks asteroids closely to avoid threats to Earth. It uses advanced ground- and space-based instruments and observatories such as NEOWISE, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), Pans-STARRS1 and the Catalina Sky Survey to provide detailed information on the size and properties of these asteroids.

Asteroid 349507 (2008 QY)

This huge asteroid is expected to make a close visit to Earth tomorrow, October 3rd. According to NASA data, asteroid 349507 (2008 QY) is the size of a bridge, which is worrying. This is a monstrous 2200 foot asteroid. Its closest approach to Earth is expected to be 6.32 million kilometers. The relative speed of this asteroid is estimated to be a terrifying 75,457 kilometers per hour. It belongs to the Apollo family of asteroids. It was first observed on September 30, 1989. It was last seen on February 13 this year.

The size of asteroid 349507 (2008 QY) is a huge concern. According to NASA, an asteroid is classified as potentially hazardous if it is at least 492 feet across. And this asteroid is much larger than the parameter of a potentially dangerous object. Asteroid 349507 (2008 QY) is 2,200 feet wide, which is quite alarming. However, on its current trajectory, it should pass Earth without causing danger.
