Alert: Amazon Announces Major Change for Kindle Users Starting Next Month – Get the Details
Amazon has sent out a warning message to its Kindle users this week about major changes that will take effect next month. The post is related to Kindle supported files that will not be available starting November 1, 2023. “This is a final reminder that on November 1, 2023, we will begin to stop sending MOBI files (.mobi, .azw, .prc) through Send to Kindle,” the Amazon mailer says.
This basically means that the new changes will affect Kindle users trying to use the feature to send MOBI files via email, using the Kindle apps on iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac.
Amazon explains that MOBI is an older file format that does not support the latest Kindle features, so the company is now moving to modern formats that will extend the use of Kindle e-books used in the MOBI file format. Amazon also notes that Kindle users must resend files in new compatible formats, such as EPUB (.epub), which still work through the Send to Kindle for Email feature.
So what happens to content stored in MOBI formats on Kindle? Amazon assures that this change will not affect MOBI documents in your library or even other formats.
But it is recommended that you either convert the MOBI files to new Kindle compatible formats as the data may eventually be deleted from the platform altogether. The company mailer also confirms that all Send to Kindle support for MOBI files will end by December 20, 2023.
There is nothing to worry about these changes, but with the deadline less than a month away, it would be better if people stop using these old formats from now. Amazon is also giving people an option to visit its help page or even contact the customer care team to clear their doubts about this upcoming change.
