Keep Your IP Address Private On WhatsApp Calls – Here’s How!

WhatsApp users can make voice and video calls with encryption, which provides them with security, but now the messaging app goes a step further and lets you hide your IP addresses while making calls through the platform. The feature will be rolled out via a new update for both Android and iOS devices this week.

In addition to this, WhatsApp allows users to mute unknown callers, which can be a good way to avoid falling victim to major online scams that have become common these days. The messaging app has shared information about its efforts to protect users from these attacks and what it has done behind the scenes at the server level to prevent it.

How to Hide IP Address for WhatsApp Calls

First, make sure you have updated to the latest version of WhatsApp on your Android or iPhone device. Now follow these steps:

– Open WhatsApp

– Click the three-dot menu Settings

– Tap Privacy

– Scroll down to Advanced Settings

– Enable the Protect IP address in a call feature

So why is WhatsApp bringing this feature? WhatsApp explains that the IP address is needed to ensure fast data transfer and higher call quality. But this exposes your IP address so that the device can identify and deliver the data to the correct IP address.

And with this information, it is easy to determine the user’s geographical location and even the Internet service provider. “When this feature is enabled, all your calls are routed through WhatsApp servers, ensuring that other parties to the call cannot see your IP address and subsequently deduce your general geographic location,” WhatsApp says in this post.

WhatsApp does not activate the feature by default and allows users to choose whether they want to use it for a particular call. Having said that, WhatsApp is clearly telling people that if you enable the feature, the call quality on the messaging app will degrade.
