Twitch CEO Emmett Shear is stepping down after more than 16 years
Emmett Shear, CEO of Amazon.com Inc.-owned Twitch, said Thursday he is stepping down after more than 16 years at the streaming company.
Twitch president Dan Clancy, who has been with the company since 2019, will take over as CEO effective immediately, Shear said in a blog post, adding that he will continue to serve as an advisor.
“In October 2006, we started working on live video for the Internet. It became Twitch. Over 16 years later I am now a father and ready to move on to the next phase of my life, Shear tweeted.
Shear co-founded the live streaming platform Justin.tv, which became Twitch in 2011, and quickly took off in the gaming community. Three years later, Amazon bought it for just under a billion dollars.
