Here’s what we know about Elon Musk’s X, which now competes with WhatsApp by offering video and audio call support.
Elon Musk has been talking about bringing calling support to X for users, and the update is now available if you’re using an Android phone. The good thing about voice and video calling support on X is that you don’t have to pay for an X Premium subscription and it’s immediately available to any X user who’s recently updated the app.
The update is rolling out this week, allowing X users to make video or audio calls to their relatives, contacts or followers. The feature is embedded in the platform settings, and you can enable or disable it in your account right away by following these instructions.
Enabling video/audio calling on X
– Open X on your Android phone
– Click Settings & Privacy in the sidebar
– Scroll down to Privacy & Security for more options
– Now click on Direct Messages
– You will see the voice-video call tab
– Turn on the switch to use the feature
When we tried to look for calling support, we found that X has enabled the feature by default, which most people don’t like. But luckily, you have the option to disable the feature manually, and you can do that by deleting selections, people in your address book, and people you follow.
When you do that, X makes sure you don’t get unwanted calls to the platform. To provide more privacy on X for calls, the platform also ensures that unless you message an account, they cannot call you on X using the calling feature. X has added most of its new features to a subscription, but calling is available to everyone, including those using X for free. With calling support now available on X, the platform can be considered a decent competitor to WhatsApp and even Google Meet to some extent.
