Twitter CEO Elon Musk is now the most followed person on Twitter

Twitter’s acquisition has helped its CEO Elon Musk become the world’s most followed person on the platform, as Chief Twit on Thursday overthrew former US President Barack Obama as the most followed person on Twitter.

The billionaire, who bought Twitter last year for $44 billion, now has 133,068,709 followers, compared to Obama’s 133,042,819, according to the tally.

Popular celebrities such as Justin Bieber with over 113 million Twitter followers and Katy Perry with over 108 million followers are in the third and fourth most followed positions.

Musk hit the 100 million follower mark in June of last year, and since then his popularity has skyrocketed.

While Obama rarely tweets, especially when promoting a major social issue or highlighting his work as President of the United States, Musk is constantly Tweeting left, right and center on almost every trending topic in the world.

In February, Musk said he was making his Twitter account private to see if that would improve reach.

“I made my account private until tomorrow morning to test if you see my private tweets more than my public ones,” he wrote.

This meant that the only people who could see the billionaire’s tweets were his followers, and no one could retweet Musk’s tweets either.

It was born out of user complaints that their tweets were not being seen by as many people as before.

Musk later removed the private setting from his account.
