WhatsApp will soon enable users to share a 1-minute video on their status update.
WhatsApp has brought several updates over the past few months and continues to do so to improve the user experience. The platform has been extensively updated, from the introduction of WhatsApp channels to major interface changes, further suggesting that there is still more to be done. In one such move, WhatsApp recently unveiled a long-awaited feature that allows users to upload a minute-long clip to their status.
This follows long-standing requests from several users who have urged the platform to extend the previous 30-second limit on video uploads. Following the requests, WhatsApp is now working to allow one-minute videos in its status feature, like Instagram.
WhatsApp plans to allow one-minute videos
According to a report by WABetainfo, WhatsApp is currently testing a feature that will allow users to add a minute-long video to their status updates. Thanks to this, users no longer have to limit or shorten their videos to 30 seconds. If the video exceeds the one-minute limit, WhatsApp will automatically split it into 60-second segments.
Although the feature has been found in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.7.6 and is only available to a small number of Android smartphone users, it is expected to roll out to others in the coming weeks. Before that, the company may also consider taking feedback before implementing the change.
After the update, users who want to take advantage of WhatsApp’s one-minute status update can follow the given instruction:
1. Open the WhatsApp app on your Android or iOS device.
2. Go to the Status section and click the My Status icon to upload the video.
3. Select the video and make sure it does not exceed the required minutes.
4. When you’re done, upload it to video mode for your contacts to see.
Note: While the update is currently available to beta testers who have already installed the latest WhatsApp beta update for Android from the Google Play Store, once it’s released to everyone, users will also need to update WhatsApp to see longer status videos.
Other features
In addition to the expanded status limit, a recent WABetaInfo report also suggested that the company will bring another update that will allow users to mention their contacts in status updates, just like on Instagram. Mentioned users will also receive a notification. In addition to this, WhatsApp also aims to facilitate QR payments by allowing users to easily share their QR codes directly from the chat tab.
