Canon Launches EOS R100, Its Smallest Mirrorless Camera, Alongside RF28mm F/2.8 Pancake Lens

Canon has launched a new entry-level mirrorless camera in the Indian market – the EOS R100. It has a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor and is touted as the smallest and smallest mirrorless camera in Canon’s EOS R range.

Canon has also introduced a new 28mm F/2.8 pancake lens alongside the EOS R100, marking the first time the brand has released an RF-mount pancake lens – for both full-frame and crop sensorless cameras.

The Canon EOS R100’s 24.1-megapixel sensor allows for an ISO range of 100-12,800, and users can shoot in 4K at 25fps and even in HD at 120fps for slow motion. However, it only has digital stabilization and no in-body image stabilization (IBIS).

As a Canon camera, the R100 features Canon staples such as Eye Detection AF and up to 143 AF areas with Dual Pixel CMOS AF.

In terms of ergonomics and weight, the camera weighs just 356g, and Canon calls it the “smallest and lightest camera” in Canon’s R camera system. Canon claims its textured grip helps creators keep a firm grip on the camera and camera body. It also has an electronic viewfinder (EVF) with approximately 2.36 million dots and a pop-up flash.

Alongside the EOS R100, Canon has launched the RF28mm F/2.8 pancake lens equipped with STM motors. It is quite compact, only 25 cm long and weighs 120 grams.

The brand has so far not revealed the prices of the newly announced products, but as the June 2023 launch date approaches, we can expect more information.
