Transferring Smartwatch Data Without Resetting Now Possible With WearOS 4.0
Thanks to the collaboration between Google and Samsung, WearOS has been revitalized with the introduction of the new WearOS 3.0 version, which supports a range of smartwatches. The latest news is that WearOS 4.0 is on the horizon, and it is rumored to include a convenient feature that will simplify the process of switching between smartwatches for users.
The WearOS version was part of the Google I/O 2023 line-up last month, and some new features appear to simplify the use of Android smartwatches. Samsung is one of the first OEMs to use the new WearOS 4.0 version in its One UI Watch 5 beta avatar.
And it looks like a new beta will allow Samsung Galaxy Watch users to switch to another phone without having to completely reset the watch. Until now, you’ve had to reset your smartwatch every time you switch to another phone.
But WearOS 4.0 changes this process, actually eliminating the need to reset altogether. The update changelog for the One UI 5 update clearly mentions this option available to Samsung Galaxy Watch users. Beta testers have tried using this method to verify the new process, and it really works.
How to change phone without resetting smartwatch
– Start the process by opening the Settings of the Galaxy Wearable app
– Now log in with your Google ID on the new phone
– The paired smartwatch shows an alert from the new phone
– You will receive a pop-up window on your phone asking you to pair a new watch
– When the Google ID of both devices matches, start the device transfer process
– The transfer will start and show the progress to get all the apps and other information
This process of transferring an account between two phones is definitely useful for those who have WearOS smartwatches, in this case the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 or later.
This new feature is coming to WearOS 4.0, which means other compatible smartwatches should get this compatibility as well, but we’re not sure if Google plans to make it a wide release instead of just keeping it to Samsung smartwatches.
