Nintendo Switch to Receive Remake of ‘Super Mario RPG’ on November 17th
There was speculation that the latest Nintendo Direct would feature a revamped version of a popular SNES game, and it appears that the rumors were true. Super Mario RPG is making a comeback with updated visuals and will be available on the Nintendo Switch starting November 17th.
The 1996 original was the first Mario RPG. It tasks Mario, Bowser, Peach and friends with taking down a mechanical enemy named Smithy and recovering the stolen pieces of Star Road. The remake uses the same art style as modern Mario games. While platforming is still included, you’ll need to engage in turn-based combat to defeat your opponents.
This isn’t the only new version of an older game that Nintendo announced during the Direct. The company is also working on an updated version of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. That might not come as much of a surprise given the success of Luigi’s Mansion 3. Remastering the ten-year-old 3DS game for Switch introduces it to a new audience. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon remake is coming next year.
