Very few feature phones support UPI and have their own UPI enabled app. Of course the ‘*99# UPI’ service is available for all mobile phones but it has not managed to get much transactions due to the USSD code interface. The JioPay app allows users to scan and make payments like smartphone users do with Paytm, PhonePe or Google Pay.
Priced at Rs 999, the JioBharat handset is basically a feature phone but offers all the essential features of a smartphone. The JioBharat phone also comes with a supported data plan that offers unlimited voice calls.
JioBharat phone data package is also the cheapest gateway to mobile internet. Jio claimed that the monthly subscription is 30% cheaper with 7 times more data compared to other operators’ feature phones. At Rs 123 per month, users get unlimited voice calls and 14GB data compared to Rs 179 calls and 2GB data from other operators.

This also allows other brands to launch devices like this handset. “Apart from Reliance Retail, other phone brands (starting with Karbonn) will adopt ‘Jio Bharat Platform’ to build Jio Bharat phones,” said Jio.
