Elon Musk Predicts Twitter Will Reach an All-Time High
Threads, Meta’s latest social media venture, has been receiving positive attention since its release on July 6. Surpassing ChatGPT’s two-month record, Threads achieved an impressive milestone by reaching 100 million users in just four days on July 10. However, Twitter seems to be thriving as well, with company executive chair and CTO Elon Musk, along with CEO Linda Yaccarino, suggesting that it is poised to achieve new accomplishments.
A few hours ago, Yaccarino tweeted: “Don’t want to leave you guys hanging by a thread… but Twitter, you really outdid yourselves! Last week we had our biggest usage day since February. He added, likely digging into Threads and other Twitter-like platforms: “There is only ONE Twitter. You know it. I know it.”
Musk also responded to the tweet, saying, “Cumulative user seconds per day reported by iOS and Android is the hardest to game. I think we can hit an all-time high this week.”
Elon Musk claims Twitter usage is at an all-time high
To explain what Twitter executives mean, “cumulative user seconds per day of phone time” is basically the amount of time a user spends in a given app on a given day. This does not include background activity but actual usage time, meaning that the user was actively using the app. Also known as time spent on app/website, it is part of Twitter’s engagement data.
The Twitter app, based on iOS and Android data, has seen the most cumulative time of any user since February 2023, according to Yaccarino. Musk also hinted that the microblogging app could hit an all-time high this week. the time spent by users is the highest since the app was first released in 2010.
In particular, Musk changed Twitter’s capture data metric from mDAU (daily active users – mobile) to user seconds after acquiring the platform as a better way to chart its performance. Before the acquisition, he expressed concern that robots could manipulate data. In a separate tweet, he explained: “It’s the hardest thing to cheat. Troll farms can still manipulate screen time via people with lots of phones, but it’s over 100 times more expensive than bots.
While neither has shared any information, the timing of the announcement is quite interesting as yesterday, July 10th, Threads hit the huge milestone of 100 million users.
Musk has recently taken numerous digs at the Threads app and its parent company Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, including one recent incident in which the former shockingly challenged the latter to a “literal” penis measurement contest.
