In the fast heating generative AI race, Meta is looking forward to releasing its own AI model to better compete with Google Bard and OpenAI's ChatGPT.AI

Meta Unveils Generative AI Model Similar To ChatGPT and Google Bard

According to reports, Meta (previously known as Facebook) is allegedly preparing to launch a commercial edition of its artificial intelligence (AI) model. The aim is to rival Microsoft-supported OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s AI project Bard, both of which are making significant progress in the development of generative AI.

According to the Financial Times, Meta will use new software based on large-scale language models (LLM) that can generate text, images and code.

The technology giant released its own language model, called LLaMA, for researchers and academics earlier this year, but the new version is said to be more widely available and customizable by businesses.

According to Meta, its LLMs are “open source,” meaning that information about the new model is made public.

According to the report, the release of the new AI model is expected soon.

This is in contrast to competitors such as OpenAI, whose latest model GPT-4 is the so-called black box, which means that the data and codes used to build the model are not available to third parties.

“The AI competitive landscape is going to completely change in the coming months, maybe the coming weeks, when there will be open source platforms that are actually as good as those that aren’t,” Yann LeCun, Meta’s vice president and chief AI researcher, was quoted as saying.

Additionally, the report mentioned that Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and other executives have hinted at an effort to create multiple AI chatbots for individuals, advertisers, and businesses on Meta’s platforms Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook.

Meanwhile, tech billionaire Elon Musk has launched a new artificial intelligence company called xAI, which aims to “understand the true nature of the universe.”

The group is led by Musk and includes team members who have worked at other big names in artificial intelligence, including OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research and Google’s DeepMind.
